The
additions and renovation project at the Richards Elementary School
in Newport, NH centered around the desire to preserve and rejuvenate
the historic 1896 school building. With a growing student population,
the town wanted to balance the need for additional space with the
preservation of the existing building. The original main entry,
which was no longer in use, was renovated and reinstated as the
school's main student entrance. Other existing spaces, including
the cafeteria and media center, were renovated and brought up to
current code and accessibility standards. Much needed instructional
space, a new multi-purpose room, and an evening use entrance is
housed at the rear of the building in a 27,500 square foot addition.
The design of the addition compliments the existing structure rather
than simply copying the original details.
The
project included renovations at the Newport Middle High School and
the Towle Elementary School. |
